OS Land Trust Working to Clean Up Donated Land

posted Oct 17, 2012, 12:23 PM by Sustainable Saybrook

What’s happening in the parking lot behind the old CVS building (now a Middlesex Hospital Primary Care facility)?  Can you see the water?   Hopefully, you noticed the vista is improving with the removal of phragmities and the clearing of some debris and invasive plants.

This land was donated by Mrs. Lou Rae Beers to the Old Saybrook Land Trust in 2010.   The stewardship committee evaluated the potential of removing years of accumulation natural and otherwise.  The town public works personnel trucked off a couch, chairs and other odd discards.  Then the team went to work removing the vines, fallen trees, and the dreaded invasive knotweed plants.   Intermingled with the natural environment were large amounts of plastic bags, paper cups and  other assorted trash that may have blown in or been discarded there.  We invite you to join us Saturday October 20th at 8:30 to join in this effort.
Our dream for the site is to have a downtown park-like setting with benches where people could enjoy the view, be de-stressed by watching the animal life and bird patterns, or taking a break from working, shopping, or exercising.   Please like us on facebook or contact us by e-mail OSLT.org if you want to be involved.
